DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER — OPENING FAMILY CHECK Scope: family relationships introduced in chapters 2–5. No later outcomes. Selected people only; this is not a complete Jia/Wang/Lin/Xue genealogy. DAIYU TO BAOYU Lin Daiyu -> mother Jia Min -> Grandmother Jia Grandmother Jia -> son Jia Zheng -> Jia Baoyu Jia Min and Jia Zheng are siblings: Daiyu and Baoyu are first cousins. Lin Ruhai is Daiyu's father; Lady Wang is Baoyu's mother. BAOCHAI TO BAOYU Xue Baochai -> mother Aunt Xue (born Wang) Aunt Xue <-> sister Lady Wang -> son Jia Baoyu Baochai and Baoyu are first cousins through their mothers. This does not make Baochai a daughter of Grandmother Jia's child. XIFENG Jia She -> son Jia Lian -> married to Wang Xifeng. Wang Xifeng is also Lady Wang's niece (chapters 2–3). Keep the marriage connection separate from the niece connection. NINGGUO GENERATION CHECK Jia Jing -> son Jia Zhen -> son Jia Rong (chapter 2). Lady Qin / Qin Shi is Jia Rong's wife (chapter 5). “Uncle Bao” is a kinship-generation address, not proof that Baoyu is Jia Rong's father's own brother. Do not infer family rank from age alone. MY EDITION Title / translator / volume: Chapter reached: Name in this guide / spelling in my edition: Relationship I checked: Chapter and passage in my edition: Still uncertain / leave blank: Do not look up later spouses, deaths or endings to complete this opening map.
